“I think Poppy is amazing. Nothing beats being on the Monterey Peninsula.” – Mark O’Meara

It’s been nearly a year since Poppy Hills golf in Pebble Beach was recognized by the California Golf Course Owners Association (CGCOA) as its 2015 Course of the Year — and as a finalist in 2016.

This incredibly prestigious award is offered to the course that receives the highest scores in five criteria:

  • Exceptional Quality of Course

  • Exemplary water stewardship

  • Exceptional quality of ownership and management

  • Outstanding contribution to the community

  • Significant contributions to the game

“Poppy Hills excels in all categories and serves as the consummate role model for other golf facilities within our association,” said CGCOA Executive Director Marc Connerly.

No Trip to Pebble Beach is Complete Without a Trip to Poppy Hills

Since the opening of the newly designed Poppy Hills in 2014, the course was named “Renovation of the Year” by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golfweek, and Links Magazine, and has been highly praised by many pros on the Champions Tour.

As World Golf Hall of Famer Colin Montgomerie said, “It reminds me a little bit of Pinehurst and a little bit of Pine Valley in many ways. This is an excellent course. I loved it.”

Golf Digest has also said that Poppy Hills is “Maybe the coolest golf hang on 17- Mile Drive.”

We could go on and on about the attributes of Poppy Hills. But the moral of the story is that Poppy Hills has made its presence known as one of the best golf experiences on the west coast. No trip to Pebble Beach is complete without putting a peg in the ground at Poppy Hills.
