Poppy Hills of Pebble Beach Selected to Host 2018 US Girls’ Junior Championship

Poppy Hills is Ready to Test The Best of the Best at the 2018 USGA Girls’ Championship

The Northern California Golf Association and Poppy Hills of Pebble Beach could not be more thrilled to be hosting the the 2018 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. The official tournament dates will be July 16th – 21st and will mark the first time that Poppy Hills has ever hosted a USGA Championship. This event is one of thirteen U.S. national championships organized by the United States Golf Association.

The competition is open to amateur girls who are under the age of 18 and hold a USGA index of 18.4 or less. The format consists of two days of stroke play with the top 64 competitors the battling it out on day three to determine the tournament champion.

The U.S. Girl’s Junior Championship dates back to 1949 and has been the stage for a long list of champions who would have great success in the professional level, including the following Hall of Fame players: Amy Alcott, Nancy Lopez and Inbee Park — to name a few.

Poppy Hills – A Championship Golf Course

Poppy Hills has branded itself as a championship golf course that hosts over seventy NCGA and Junior Tour events — and another three hundred club events annually including the St. Mary’s Invitational, Stanford Invitational and Nature Valley First Tee Open.

There is no doubt that Poppy Hills is excited and ready for to host this prestigious event and excited for it to be the catapult to many more of its kind in the future.

When asked about the venue USGA President Diana Murphy said, “We are proud to welcome Poppy Hills as a USGA championship host, and confident that this respected course will provide a worthy test and enjoyable experience for the world’s best female junior golfers.”

The U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship has produced:

  • 10 Major Champions

  • 5 U.S. Women’s Open

  • 27 LPGA Tour Winners

  • 6 U.S. Women’s Amateurs

This event will surely be another for the history books — and another boxed checked for Poppy Hills as it continues to make its mark as one of golf’s greatest tests in the game’s most famous zip code of Pebble Beach, California.
