Poppy Hills Gets PGA Tour Schedule Approved

With 15,372 golf courses in the United States, I think it’s safe to say the PGA Tour isn’t hurting to find places to put the world’s best to the test. I’ll come right out and say it — the pros are spoiled. Week after week, they peg it on the most perfect tee boxes, watch it roll down the firmest, fastest and most pristine fairways — and roll the rock on greens where not a single blade of grass is out of place. When the PGA Champions Tour approached us to see if we would be one of only 28 PGA Tour schedule stops on our opening year, we could not have been more excited. Just getting the Tour interested is a huge accomplishment…but the real test is to find out what the players think.

One player’s opinion can have a drastic effect on how a course is viewed by the masses, so our team was very anxious to meet the players after their rounds.

“This is a hell of track, we’d love a three day event at Poppy Hills if the NCGA will sponsor it. I loved it.” said Colin Montgomerie. Note: Montgomerie hit every fairway during his round for a bogey-free 68.

“Poppy Hills is a more linksy-style course now with the waste, bunkers. I like it a lot, I think the redesign turned out really well.” said Jeff Maggert

Five-time British Open Champion Tom Watson also approved, saying “The look of the course is extremely pleasing to the eye, I like it a lot.”

And I’ll wrap this up with one of my personal favorites that comes from Davis Love III, “At times you’re like, ‘Wow, it looks like Augusta.’”

The other course comparisons we often hear mentioned of the new firm, fast, and fun Poppy Hills 2.0 are Bandon Trails, Pinehurst #2, Chambers Bay and Pine Valley. Company we are very happy to claim!
